Make a hands-free bag with plenty of room for everyday essentials! In this class, you'll work on the Zuma Sling Bag by Hold It Right There Patterns, a spacious crossbody sling designed to be worn across your back or chest.
The Zuma features a roomy main compartment with clever accordion wings that let the bag open wide without everything spilling out. Inside, you'll add a large slip pocket and zippered pocket for organization, while the curved exterior zipper pocket keeps your phone or other essentials easy to reach. An adjustable webbing strap finishes it off for a comfortable, practical everyday bag.
Throughout this class, you'll work through intermediate bag-making techniques including zipper installation, dimensional construction, lining pockets, webbing, and managing multiple layers for a clean, professional finish.
This class is best suited for intermediate sewists who are comfortable using their sewing machine and have previous experience sewing bags and installing zippers.
You'll learn how to:
- Construct a structured sling-style bag
- Install a curved exterior zipper pocket
- Create interior slip and zippered pockets
- Construct the accordion wings and dimensional bag body
- Work with webbing to create an adjustable crossbody strap
- Manage layers and bulk during bag construction
- Use techniques for clean, professional-looking results

Sewing Machine: Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine if they have one. A limited number of sewing machines are available to rent for class. If you need to reserve a machine, please add a Sewing Machine Rental to your cart when registering.

I totally understand that schedules can get a little wild sometimes! If something comes up and you can’t make it to class, here’s how I handle cancellations:
- More than 72 hours before class: No worries at all—I'm happy to either move you to a future session or give you a full refund.
- Less than 72 hours before class starts: Let me know as soon as you can. If I’m able to fill your spot, I’ll gladly move you to another date or issue you store credit to use later.
- No-show with no notice: Your class fee will be forfeited. I know that’s a bummer, but I’ve already planned, prepped, and paid for your spot—kind of like buying a concert ticket. If you can’t make it and give me a heads up, there’s a much better chance I can help!
