Private Classes

Private Sewing Lessons

If you're located in the Greater Philadelphia area and want to grow your bag-making or quilting skills, private sewing lessons are a great place to start. In addition to teaching at local quilt shops, I offer personalized, one-on-one lessons in my studio at the Spring City Mill Studios in Spring City, PA.

Please note: I specialize exclusively in bag making and quilting. Lessons are focused on these areas and can be tailored to your skill level and goals—whether you're just starting out or looking to refine specific techniques.

Some examples of what you can learn in private lessons include:

  • Sewing machine basics

  • Reading and following bag or quilt patterns

  • Accurate cutting, pressing, and piecing

  • Installing zippers, hardware, or pockets

  • Working with interfacing and stabilizers

  • Creating improv patchwork panels

  • Trimming and binding quilts

  • Choosing fabrics and building color palettes

I also offer semi-private lessons for groups of two or three students who’d like to learn together.

Rates

Lessons are billed hourly, typically ranging from $35–$40 per hour depending on the project. Sessions are scheduled in advance and booked in 2- or 3-hour blocks. They can be recurring (weekly or bi-weekly) or just one-time, depending on your goals.

Discounted rates are available for semi-private lessons—per-person pricing is slightly lower when booking as a group of two to four students. Contact me for a custom quote based on your group size and project.

What to Expect

The goal of private lessons is not only to help you complete a project, but also to build your confidence and grow the skills needed to continue sewing independently at home.

Class Requirements

  • Students must bring their own sewing machine in good working order. If needed, one sewing machine is available to rent for $20 per session—please contact me in advance to reserve it.

  • You’ll need to purchase your own copy of the pattern we’ll be using.

  • Please bring all necessary supplies and materials. (Limited items may be available for purchase during class.)

If you have any questions or want to talk through your project ideas, please reach out using the form below—I’d love to help you get started!

Private Lesson Cancellation Policy

I totally understand that schedules can get a little wild sometimes! If something comes up and you can’t make it to class, here’s how I handle cancellations:

  • More than 72 hours before the private lesson: No worries at all—I'm happy to either move you to a future session or give you a full refund.

  • Less than 72 hours before the private lesson starts: I’ll gladly move you to another date or issue you store credit to use later.

  • No-show with no notice: Your private lesson fee will be forfeited. I know that’s a bummer, but I’ve already planned, prepped, and reserved your spot—kind of like buying a concert ticket. If you can’t make it and give me a heads up, there’s a much better chance I can help!

If you’re unsure what applies to your situation, just reach out—I’m always happy to talk it through and see what we can figure out.
