Brandywine Valley Quilt Show

This June was a milestone for me as I entered a quilt show for the first time. For over a month, my coworker and I had been chatting about submitting our quilts to the show hosted by the Brandywine Valley Quilters. In a spur-of-the-moment decision, we both decided to take the plunge at submitted our applications two hours before they closed. Nothing like a little procrastination! Haha. Not to mention, I then had to sew a sleeve on the back of the quilt so that they could hang it at the show (which was something I had never done before) and obviously, I waited until the day before it needed to be dropped off to do that. 🤣

I chose to showcase my New Year’s Kiss quilt, a stunning pattern by Toad and Sew that I completed several months ago. Creating this quilt was a joyful experience, allowing me to experiment with colors in a way I hadn't before. To top it off, my "quilty" friend, Amanda, of Hither & Yon Quilting, did a phenomenal job with the edge-to-edge quilting, using a striking acid lime thread that perfectly complemented the design.

To my utter amazement, I won a first-place ribbon in the Computer Guided Modern Large category! (This category means that it was a large-scale modern quilt but used computer edge-to-edge quilting versus free motion quilting). The judges provided insightful and fair feedback, which I deeply appreciated. Although I was incredibly nervous about putting my work out there alongside so many talented and seasoned quilters, I’m thrilled I did. Winning this award has given me a tremendous sense of accomplishment that I really needed at this moment. Given that bagmaking is my primary sewing focus, it was incredibly gratifying to see my quilting stand out among other talented quilters.

Now, this cherished quilt, adorned with its adorable handmade ribbon from the guild, will be proudly displayed outside my studio.
